Principal's Message
We are quickly moving through November with exciting days ahead for our Chipmunks! Tomorrow morning we welcome our Veteran's Day speakers to join all of our classes. I am pleased to welcome many of our military parents and veteran's from Vinson Hall to meet with our students and share about their experiences in the military. To all of our current and veteran military families, thank you for your service! Students will be off on Friday as teacher's will focus on instructional planning and our primary teachers will participate in professional development with our new updated to our Language Arts program.
Grades are posted in SIS Parent Vue (as of today) and data reports were sent home to provide information on the assessments completed for our first through sixth grade students. Basic assessment data for iReady reading and math as well as the fluency and spelling assessment data was shared in this report. FCPS sent an email notifying parents of a new letter that will provide more details on the reading and math domains that were assessed. This letter will be posted in Parent Vue later this month, but I'm not sure yet when that will be viewable. We will keep you updated. These letters will not be printed for the school, but if you cannot access it, we will be able to provide the letter to you.
This school year, we are consistently working on instructional practices that allow students opportunities to explore curriculum in a deeper context. Teachers are working to include Portrait of a Graduate skills with their daily learning targets to not only develop these skills, but also have our students explicitly identify when they are utilizing them. Parents, you can help too by volunteering to assist with out work around POG. More informaiton is included below along with a sign up form.
Additionally, we reaffirm our committment to the collective partnership with parents, which is critical to your child's success. As we closed first quarter and held conferences, these deeper conversations about your child(ren) build foundational support and a collective partnership to further our work to help each student work towards their best self! It has been wonderful to include parents in field trips, classroom events which have included the 5th grade Dig, 1st Grade International Day, 2nd grade Applesauce Day and now we will kick off our 1st Annual Turkey Trot! Join us on Tuesday, November 22nd during your child's Turkey Trot and recess block to cheer them on. See details below!
Sincerely,
Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal

YEARBOOK PHOTOS - We need your help!
Planning for the 2022-23 yearbook is underway, and we need your help! In early December, we'll be looking for student and parent volunteers to help design and build the yearbook. In the meantime, we're looking for photos!
If you chaperone a field trip, assist in a classroom with a special project or event, or attend any of the great Chesterbrook family activities, concerts and performances, don't forget to capture and share the memories. Volunteer responsibilities and enjoying / experiencing the events without looking through a lens should come first of course, but if you have an opportunity to take some photos and would be willing to share them for the yearbook, that would be fabulous!
Please use the following links to upload your photos to the appropriate album. (Note that although passwords are not required to upload photos, the albums are stored on a password protected, unlisted site.)
