Principal's Message

We are nearing the end of the 2023-24 school year. Thank you to our parent volunteers for continuing to support our cafeteria weekly, field trips, field day and end of year celebrations. We are truly grateful for the parent support.

Last Friday we held our 4th Quarter Pep Rally which also was a time to honor our retirees:

Mrs. Cynthis Kohout, Special Education Teacher
Ms. Betsy Butler, 2nd Grade Teacher
Mrs. Lan Ong, Building Supervisor
Mrs. Anne Himelfarb, Instructional Assistant

The end of the year also brings a time to say goodbye to those moving away and off to new adventures. I know our staff are loved and our students want to be able to say goodbye. These staff members include:

Peggy Leung, Chinese Teacher - Transferring to Dranesville ES to teach Kindergarten

Christina Flegas, 4th Grade Teacher - Moving out of Virginia

Jessica Miller - spending more time with her new little boy and working as a part time PE teacher at Langley HS.

Kathleen Limbaugh, 1st Grade- Spending time at home with her daughter

Stephanie Jennings - Transferring to Deer Park ES

Lauren Rye-An- Moving out of Virginia continuing to teach music

Taylor Coffey, PE - As we are growing her part time match will be met with another school, Belle View ES

Lucia Kim - She will be subbing within FCPS

Eman Al Haddad - Moving to Loudoun and working with LCPS

Hailee Park, Special Education teacher - Moving out of Virginia and welcoming her first child.

As we close the year we are fully staffed with the exception of a couple of aides.  We have a great group of knowledgeable, talented educators with a wealth of experience joining Team Chesterbrook!

Sincerely,

Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal

Yearbook Distribution

We will begin yearbook distribution to students who have purchased one tomorrow, Wednesday, June 5th.

We have a limited number of extras on hand to sell.  Thursday morning, any student may purchase one for $20 (cash or Check payable to Chesterbrook ES).  No early requests to purchase yearbooks will be accepted.  Sales will begin Thursday morning in the front office on a first come basis.

Thank you to Sarah Gilbert, for her dedication and her photography skills, as she helped take photos, organize collection of pictures and so creatively built our yearbook. We hope your children will treasure this work for years to come!

Chesterbrook Teams Excel in National Math Olympiad Competitions!

Congratulations to the Chesterbrook Math Olympiads teams!

Both Team Treacy and Team Miller were recognized with a plaque and are included on the MOEMS Honor Roll because they scored within the top 10% of all participating schools. Participants in Math Olympiads are located in all fifty states, three US territories and in thirty foreign countries. In all, there were 4,061 teams and approximately 90,000 participants. Congratulations to Mr. Treacy, Mrs. Miller, and the students!

We would like to recognize our students for their incredible accomplishments. Congratulations to fourth grader Nathan G. for earning the prestigious Dr. George Lenchner medallion, awarded for achieving a perfect score 25/25. Congratulations also to Yohan E. and Sarah L. for earning a white pin by scoring within the top 2%!  In addition, the following students also earned a blue pin by scoring within the top 3-10%:  Elsa I., Grant F., Riya A., Sophie T., Zachary S., Ethan S., Nathan Go., Vivian C., Tyler B., Oliver T., Sasha C., Ryan R., Austin B., Evelyn L.

Inclusive Preschool Community Program

Chesterbrook opened an early childhood class based preschool during the 2023-24 school year.  Chesterbrook Elementary will continue our community peers invitation in our preschool program next school year. This will involve teaching preschoolers with developmental delays and without delays in the same classroom. It can provide young children with a more stimulating environment, teach skills for coping with different situations, and provide the opportunity to learn appropriate social skills.

Our program will invite a limited number of community preschoolers (1-2 students), who are age 4-5 years (must be at least 4 years old by September, 30 of school year), to participate in our daily preschool activities. The children from the community will have the opportunity to make new friends and share experiences with current early childhood special education students. Our students will, in turn, benefit from being with community peers who can model appropriate language, motor, and social skills.

The goal of this program is to encourage active learning and promote social interaction and acceptance through shared experiences between the community children and our preschoolers with special needs.

Our Preschool Hours are Monday - Friday as follows:

AM Preschool 9:20 am - 12:40 pm

PM Preschool 12:45 pm – 4:05 pm

If you are interested in expressing interest in Chesterbrook’s Community Peers Program, please complete this google form.

Please reach out to Assistant Principal, Lara Macdonald with any questions ad also to indicate your interest in the program for your preschool aged child.

Get excited for summer reading!

There are lots of opportunities to encourage reading this summer that we wanted to share with you.  We will be doing the Chesterbrook Summer Reading Challenge again this year with a bingo board of activities students can complete.  We’re looking forwards to adding lots of pictures of our summer readers to our Summer Readers’ Wall of Fame in August.  You can print out the Summer Reading Board to participate.

We also wanted to share a flyer with links to other reading programs that are available this summer where students can earn rewards and free books.  We hope you have a great summer full of books!

Principal's Message

What a wonderful first week! It is a collaborative effort between our staff, students and families that made it a wonderful week. Thank you! Welcoming all of our student back and watching them settle into the start a new, promising school year brings so much joy. So many great things are in store with new curriculum, new friends and an amazing staff ready to support each of your children.

Students participated in morning meetings with peer greetings, upper grade students were introduced to opportunities in strings, band and chorus and we all went over the basic routines for the school year in new grades. We quickly watched our newest Chipmunks find their way as some of our wonderful upper grade students served as leaders to help them during dismissal.

We are rolling out ourStudent Ambassador and Patrol appplications so our student leaders can be appointed in their roles to help our school community thrive. Fifth and Sixth grade teachers will be sharing information with students on these opportunities so they can apply for opportunities this week.

This Tuesday evening we will host our annual Back to School BBQ with hotdogs and potluck meals from families.  Please join us and bring your favorite dish to share. We ask that any item brought is nut free for the safety of our community. Sign up here to bring a dish and join us. I hope to see many of our families at our community event.

We encourage our Chipmunks to show their spirit this Thursday by wearing their spirit gear or our colors - blue and yellow/gold. Show your Chipmunk Pride and joy to be back for a new year.

Sincerely,

Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal

Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents and caregivers to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.

In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available: a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents/caregivers with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice, because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.

Principal's Message

We had a wonderful turn out last week for our beginning of the year Chesterbrook community pot luck and cookout. Ms. Macdonald and I enjoyed grilling up the hotdogs and adding to the many wonderful dishes provided by families. It was a beautiful and special night and I hope you had a chance to connect with some families in our community. Check out some of our photos below. Thank you for coming out to celebrate the start of another school year!

Tomorrow evening, Thursday, September 5th, we look forward to seeing parents at our Chesterbrook Back to School Night.  We have set up the evening to accommodate families with multiple children during our evening schedule and also welcome you to join our PTA.

Begin the evening at 5:45 with our PTA for our first meeting of the school year. Classrooms will open for grade level and specialist sessions at 6:25. You will have three opportunities to visit your child's classroom and meet teachers throughout the night at 6:30, 7:00 and 7:30PM. Our preschool teachers will welcome there families from 6:30 - 7:15.

We now have a new Chesterbrook fence sign in our playground area thanks to the Chesterbrook classes of 2022 and 2023.  Thank you to our former students and parent volunteers that made this happen!

Sincerely,

Stacy Kirkpatrick
